Putting down stakes at Guestrated.com

There are lots of consumer friendly websites that let people like us rate hotels, theme parks and the like.

Now weve learned of another place to provide the world with our keen insight and snarkiness: GuestRated.com.

The site, which has been around since 2008, allows readers to submit their reviews on campsites around the country. According to the sites founder, Bob MacKinnon, the site has received more than 85,000 reviews for more than 12,000 campsites and RV parks across the US and Canada.

“In order to assure that reviews are valid, guests provide an email address when they submit a review”, says MacKinnon.  “We protect every guests’ privacy, but we need to be certain that the review is coming from a real camper.  Phony reviews don’t help campgrounds or other campers.”

That doesnt mean the system cant be gamed, but we dont think it will be played as much

Find your campsite by map on GuestRated.com.

as some of the review sites that proprietors of some resorts have skillfully used to lure more people with fabulous reviews. Campers are a different breed of folk, who are often happily surprised to find a bathroom with running water on site. They dont have time to go online and make a campsite out into something its not.

The site itself is actually very clean and easy to use. We like map abilities of the site that lets you select campsites via map. However, when we tried to use the reservation system, the site seemed to bog down a little and not click to what we wanted. (But it could have been us using it incorrectly.)

We expect to do a little camping this year as its an easy way to spend a weekend away from home, not spend a bundle of cash, and just catch up with yourself. Guestrated.com is an easy way to see all of the places out there and level out your expectations before you get there.
